Thanks Dad

In 2016 I lost my dad to lung cancer.  His illness was swift but what little time we had we used to reconnect in ways we had not for years. My father and I share a love for kayaking and a love for nature and all its wonders. The first time I went out in his kayak I kept meeting Great Blue Herons. Since that day, whenever I go out on the water in his boat, there is always a heron waiting for me. I feel closest to him when I paddle. I drew this piece as a way to come to terms with and document my feelings.  It is a healing piece.

I am a Canadian artist and have been working with colour pencils since the winter of 2018. I started by working on many different subjects but quickly realized I enjoy working on animal and bird portraits. I choose animals I have encountered personally and have a memory or emotion that I can attach to them. Attempting to transfer those feelings to the portrait is where the fun and challenge lies.
